October 2015 Meeting Minutes

October 20, 2015

In attendance were Mark Cush, Cathy Morris, Dave Weiland, Rick Christ, Amy Rowland, Jo Ann Yost, Paula Cush, Rick Cercone, and Father Jonathan. Deacon Lyn, Mark Capuano and Father Jeff were absent. Mark Cush opened the meeting with prayer, the September meeting minutes were approved with one correction of the name Don Ackerman. Also thanks to Deacon and Mark for the refreshments.

Building Committee report- no new updates since last meeting.

Finance Council update presented by Father Jonathan. Our finances are in good shape. Work being done on E-giving where a contribution can be made from wherever you are. The company will be having a meeting with the parish. D ate of meeting TBD. We are not locked into contract and have ability to opt out. Repairs on parking lot has been contracted for spring of 2016. We are requesting financial assistance from the Catholic Foundation. Quote for $11,000 to fill in cracks, do light repair work. Suggestion made that we need a custodian to handle maintenance schedule and be responsible for opening/closing of parish regarding room rentals. There is money in the budget to cover this. Job description for position to be created by the finance council. Father Jeff will need to approve.

Mission Reports:

Worship- Missal and Hymnal replacement in progress. Will need to be completed prior to Advent as our current books expire at that time. Father Jonathan mentioned Saturday Mass does not have enough Eucharistic ministers, ushers, lecture. Suggestion made to ask newest group of trainees if they can help on Saturday, also after the New Year announce the need for just Saturday's.

Formation- finalized Trunk or Treat event. Tables will be set up inside and taken down by team provided by Susan Labish. Knights will coordinate food needs and handle expenses involved.

Evangelization- the original retreat planned has been tabled for future, pending approval by Father Jeff. Alternate plans are in place headed up by Father Ty for speakers and a 3 day event during Lent.

 

Culture Building- finding a maintenance supervisor has been suspended pending finalizing the custodial position.

Old Business:

It was agreed any updates to the maintenance schedule can be made as needed.

Mark Cush will line up company to come out and run cameras to address restroom issue. Dave Weiland offered to meet with them.

Trunk or Treat will be at 10 am on Oct. 25 after mass and instead of PSR. Website- testing out email reminder system for ministry schedules. Replacement for Frank Price in process.

New Council Members- Father Jonathan suggested mentoring program to assist with continuity.

New Business:

Brat Booth made $2631 for General fund. In future looking to offset this with the two major events we have annually. Man hours involved in Brat Booth are large compared to proceeds.

Loren's list-- Amy Rowland suggested Backpack program for TV schools. Called Loving Heart

Foundation spearheaded by Eric from the Carpenter shop. 10 % of his income goes to the program. Every Thurs at the Carpenter shop they pack 100 backpacks for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Another church's women's club delivers lunches and brings back backpacks. We could participate by providing a single food item weekly and assist with packing. It was unanimously agreed that we would choose this as one of our two new ministries. Suggestion made to refocus n some of our existing ministries, Bloodmobile, Share a Christmas and St. Vincent de Paul. Agreed we will all think about second ministry and discuss again at next meeting.

Nominating Committee charged with creating binders for new Committee Members. Also explain length of terms and responsibilities involved.

Each Mission Committee's October task is for their Mission is to explain , What is it? What do you expect? How do you feel? visualize, look, smell, feel. Parishioner Issues- Mark's suggestion to change response to Jesus we trust in you. Father Jonathan thought it was not a problem to make that change. Open discussion- suggestion that we buy book by Matthew Kelly "Rediscovering Jesus". Fund through Adult Ed budget of $2700 and/or perhaps Knights could contribute. Like to do during Christmas season because we have our largest audience at that time. Council supports the suggestion.

Discussed plans for Year of Mercy. Jo Ann Yost contacted Eagle tours. We

will go to Carey on Tues May 10th. Also can do a 1 or 2 day tour to the National Shrine Basilica in Washington D.C. for all 3 parishes. Need to select a date and number of persons interested to get a price. Recommendation is to do in the fall of 2016. Cathy Morris has contacted the Women of Holy Trinity Group to handle banner making that Father Jeff requested. There is a budget of $200 for the project. Women's group meets agIn on Oct 27th. Jo Ann suggested a penance service with a short talk about Grace. There is a penance service already scheduled.

 

Cathy Morris will contact Cathy Hamilton for a list of names of Year of Mercy committee members at the other two parishes. Cathy will also talk to Kristi about getting nominations for new members in the bulletin.

 

Rick Cercone asked for everyone's help in selling dinner and raffle tickets for the steak dinner. Also wine and alcohol donation or any silent auction items. Emphasized that our two major fundraisers are critical to our budget.

September 2015 Meeting Minutes

                                 Parish Council Meeting - Church of the Holy Trinity

                                                          September 15, 2015

In attendance were Cathy Morris, Deacon Lyn, Mark Cush, Dave Weiland, Mark Capuano, Rick Christ , Amy Rowland and  Jo Ann Yost.  Paula Cush, Rick Cercone, Father Jeff,  and Father Jonathan were absent.  Mark Cush opened the meeting in prayer, and the August meeting minutes were approved, after adding a special "thanks" to the Catholic Foundation for the sound system grant monies. 

Committee Reports :

The Building Committee met last Tuesday, and is meeting again tonight.  Father Jeff has asked the diocese to release the Building Fund hold so we may resume collections and pledges toward the new worship space. 

Finance Council Update

The Finance Committee met last night, with Mark Cush attending.  Mark was informed that our liability insurance has been increased by $300/month, and the reason is unclear.  This matter will be further investigated by Finance.

Work on the roof has been completed.  Blausenhaurs' has fixed the A/C Unit deflector which was causing damage to the roof.  Paul and Doug Ackerman have volunteered to tape the ceiling.  Thanks guys!!

Details are being finalized for including the monthly needs amount in the weekly giving section of the bulletin.  This is so parishioners can see how we are doing with respect to our budget. 

Missions Reports: 

Worship:  A Liturgy Committee is being formed to help in the selection of new hymnals, along with the new missals for 2015-16 Masses.  In addition, this group will serve in an advisory role to Father Jonathan regarding the five pertinent matters of liturgical service.  Our October task is to continue this work. 

Formation:  The 2015-16 Adult Faith Formation Class will begin this Sunday with a 6 week course on the "Seven Deadly Sins".  Other topics this year will point to the subject of Divine Mercy, in conjunction with Pope Francis' declaration of a Jubilee Year of Mercy, beginning December 8th.  Susan Labish has purchased a TV/DVD monitor with the PSR budget to replace the worn out TV's now being used.  Susan will let us know if she needs any other resources for this important ministry.  The October task involves preparatory work and coordination of the second annual "Trunk or Treat" festivities, on 10/25/15.

Evangelization:  It was suggested that a retreat be planned for the upcoming liturgical year; perhaps one for men and one for women.  Beth Houze and Amy Rowland will begin working with Fr. Ty in selecting a speaker for the women's retreat, along with other retreat suggestions from Fr. Jeff.  The Lenten season of 2016 was suggested as a target date.  Amy is also planning on visiting area homeless shelters, food banks, etc. to determine candidates for personal contributions and service from the parish, as well as herself.  This is their October task.

Culture Building:  We were advised that Annette Prokop will be taking over the sacristan duties.  The Annual Fall Dinner, and Fund raiser event has been scheduled for Friday evening, November 13th.  Father Jeff and Deacon Lyn are meeting with Dave Ross and Frank Price to insure that this, and future events will continue to be successful, as we transition to new volunteers for leading fund raising events.

Old Business:

Mark Cush handed out a rough draft of Inside and Outside Maintenance tasks for us to review.  As people think of additional items, they will be added to these lists. 

Father Jeff has advised our Council that second collection information is available weekly from four different sources:  The previous week's bulletin, the sign in the hallway before Mass, the Mass announcements, and the envelope packets.  There should be no confusion as to when this collection is taken, and what it will be used for.

Parking lot repairs will be needed soon, and could run as high as $13,000.  We will ask Annette to investigate the possibility of applying for grant monies to help us perform this needed work. 

Mark Cush suggested we contract Speedie Drain to run a camera down the vent stacks in order to investigate the odor which is sometimes present in the ladies' restroom.  It is definitely a sewer gas odor.  Mark will be seeking approval from the Finance Council for this work.

New Business:

We were asked by Father Jeff to consider how our parish will participate in the upcoming Jubilee Year of Mercy, which begins December 8th.  He has made some suggestions which will be discussed in the October meeting, along with any other thoughts.  Cathy and Jo Ann will address this issue.

President Cush reminded us that Parish Council elections will be coming up in December.  There are three openings for new members, as the terms for Mark Capuano, Dave Weiland, and Paula Cush will expire at that time.  Jo Ann passed out a written copy of the notes she had taken during the "Meet and Greet" activities from the past month. 

Father Jeff has confirmed to us that Deacon Lyn is his delegate to our council meetings, and acts on his behalf in all matters.  He has also advised us that among the traditional four fund raising events held by the parish, we should focus primarily on the Spring and Fall events (Monte Carlo / Golf Outing and Fall Dinner).

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, October 20th, at 7:00PM.
