November 2015 Meeting Minutes

Parish Council Meeting - Church of the Holy Trinity

November 17, 2015

In attendance were Cathy Morris, Deacon Lyn, Mark Cush, Dave Weiland, Mark Capuano, Paula Cush, Rick Christ , Amy Rowland and  Jo Ann Yost.  Rick Cercone, Father Jeff, and Father Jonathan were absent.  Mark Cush opened the meeting in prayer, and the October meeting minutes were distributed by Cathy Morris, and approved.

Committee Reports :

The Building Committee has not published notes from their last meeting, and we are still unsure as to whether or not the building fund monies have been released by the diocese.

Finance Council Update

The Finance Committee did not meet in November.  The monthly and year-to-date budgetary needs amounts are now being published in the weekly giving section of the bulletin so parishioners can see how the parish is doing with respect to our tithes and offerings.

Missions Reports:

Worship:  The newly formed Liturgy Committee has had a second meeting with some specific details and procedures discussed and resolved.  John Wojcicki has submitted some hymnal choices for consideration as replacements for the well worn (and liturgically out of date) Glory and Praise hymnals next year.  It was also agreed that the Thursday evening Bible Study should be better promoted, especially with the new “Bible Timeline” series beginning next month.

Formation:  The 2015-16 Adult Faith Formation Class has begun a six week study of Pope Francis’ Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of The Gospel).  This course will continue into early 2016.  Other topics next year will point to the subject of Divine Mercy, in conjunction with Pope Francis' declaration of a Jubilee Year of Mercy, beginning December 8th.

Evangelization:   Amy Rowland handed out the results of her investigation of various community outreach opportunities.  She suggested – and we approved - The Loving Heart Foundation’s Tusky Valley School Backpacks Program, which feeds nearly 100 children in our area on weekends.  Holy Trinity will begin contributing to this ministry with single serve ravioli donations, beginning next Sunday.  This is an excellent way for our parish to kick off the Extraordinary Year of Mercy.

Culture Building:  This particular mission is so broad based that it is difficult to completely define. Cathy and Paula noted that it is primarily service oriented at this point, but their vision includes having all council members meet regularly with each of their committee leaders to help build better relationships and aid in communications.  Actually, each mission needs to develop a written summary, describing the activities, roles and responsibilities of their individual committees.  Amy’s handout (re: above) was seen as a model for this work.

Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Bolivar will be having their annual Thanksgiving dinner next Sunday, and participation from Holy Trinity is seen as a Bridge Building opportunity within the community.

Paula has assembled binders in anticipation of the new council members elected next month.  She also handed out a copy of the most up to date bylaws, which can be posted on the Parish website.  Weekly bulletins will also be published on the website, beginning this weekend.

JoAnn Slutz has stepped down as coordinator of Funeral meals needs, and another person should be found to handle this important task.  The position should be placed in the bulletin.

Old Business:

Mark Cush advised us that copies of Matthew Kelly’s Rediscover Jesus have been ordered for distribution to the entire parish at Christmas.  The Knights of Columbus have contributed $500 toward this ministry!

Solicitations of names for candidates on the 2016 Parish Council will begin this week, with an ad in the bulletin.  Dave Weiland ran through a list of suggested names to get things started.  Additionally, all three council offices need to be filled next year, due to terms expiring and commitments completed.  We discussed having the parish bylaws changed to reduce the term of council membership to two years (from three), but were unsure as to whether or not council could enact such a change.

New Business:

We were asked by Father Jeff to consider how our parish will participate in the upcoming Jubilee Year of Mercy, which begins December 8th.  He is coordinating banners, etc. to promote this theme within the parish.

The K of C will be sponsoring a Tanzanian seminarian throughout his training in Moshe!  This wonderful gift will also be announced in next week’s bulletin.

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, December 15th, at 7:00PM.  President Cush advised us that this will be an abbreviated, but very important meeting.

Respectfully submitted,

 Mark Capuano
